On February 2, 2020, Guan Yin Citta New York holds a large-scale free vegetarian tasting event to celebrate traditional Chinese New Year and Lantern Festival. The event takes place at P.S. 1 elementary school in Chinatown, lower Manhattan. More than 200 local residents attended this gathering and spent a memorable Sunday. In addition to free vegetarian food, guests enjoyed a variety of performances and Buddhist Master Jun Hong Lu’s video clips. This event brings not only joy, it makes people happy with a hope to overcome life’s challenges and fulfill a new beginning of life.   

Over the past five years, Guan Yin Citta New York, a non-profit organization, has been steadily growing and committed to spreading core values of Buddhist. It closely collaborates with local communities and makes efforts to promote Master Jun Hong Lu’s Buddhist teachings. Guan Yin Citta New York regularly holds large scale free events to give back to communities and help people restore the balance of their minds. Many local people have benefited from Master Jun Hong Lu’s teachings and overcome life difficulties. More importantly, many of them ultimately found their spiritual sustenance and making vows to help more people alleviate from suffering.

The event includes amazing performances, introduction of Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door, video clips from Master Jun Hong Lu’s Dharma Talks and Totem Inquiry. All the vegetarian food is prepared by volunteers from Guan Yin Citta and served to the public for free. Many of the attendees said, they feel lucky to have joined such an amazing activity to learn so much informative knowledge. They will definitely come to visit the Buddhist practice centers in New York. And they also look forward to the next gathering in the near future.

On August 10, 2019, a free vegetarian tasting event takes place at P.S. 007 Louis F. Simeone district school in Elmhurst neighborhood, Queens, New York. This is the first time that Guan Yin Citta New York walks into Elmhurst neighborhood to spread Master Jun Hong Lu’s Buddhist teachings and connect with the people in this area. Hundreds of local residents attended the event and spent a memorable Saturday. Also, this free veggie event is a summer festival in community to celebrate the joy, food, and compassion behind vegetarian lifestyle. It is an opportunity for everyone to feel the loving kindness and strengthen the bonds with local community.

As the home to the largest and most prominent ethnic Chinese population in US, New York metropolitan area has the most solid social foundation of Chinese culture, making it easier for Buddhist philosophy to spread. Over the past five years, Guan Yin Citta New York has been steadily growing and has established three Buddhist practice centers in Flushing, Brooklyn, and Chinatown Manhattan respectively. The non-profit organization collaborates with local communities and makes efforts to spread love and compassion. Also, the non-profit organization regularly holds large scale free community events, such as free vegetarian events, to make people vividly feel the power of Buddhism and the urgency to start the Buddhist practice. Many local people have benefited from Master Jun Hong Lu’s teachings and overcome life difficulties. More importantly, many of them ultimately found their spiritual sustenance and making vows to help more people alleviate from suffering.

The event at Elmhurst neighborhood includes singing performances, informative introduction of Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door, and amazing video clips from Master Jun Hong Lu’s Dharma Talks and Totem Inquiry. Volunteers from Guan Yin Citta thoroughly introduced the differences between superstitious practice and Buddhist practice. Learning Buddhism is to find our true self and understand the nature of mind. It is an education to get rid of bad habits and cultivate pure mind. During the event, free vegetarian meals were served and attendees were impressed by the warmth, sincerity and passion of the volunteers. Many of the attendees said, they feel lucky to have joined such an amazing activity to learn so much informative knowledge. On October 14, 2018, Buddhist Master Jun Hong Lu, Ambassador for World Peace and also a spiritual teacher of 10 million followers, gave an inspirational public talk at Madison Square Garden, in Manhattan, New York. The event is spiritually inspired and riveting, making an unforgettable, life-changing impact on participants and the broader community. It attracted nearly 10,000 visitors and lasted for 4 hours from 1pm to 5pm.

The attendees include some of the leading politicians, business elites, members of the media industry and Buddhist clergy from the US and abroad, as well as Buddhist friends and volunteers from North America, Europe, the Middle East, Oceania and Asia. The domestic participants in US were from different places across West Coast to East Coast, including New York, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Phoenix, Colorado, Michigan, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Boston, Florida, etc.

The event began with the astonishing solo singing performance of Buddhist songs, presented by the world famous singer Chyi Yu. In recognition of Master Lu’s many years of outstanding contribution to the spread of Buddhism, philanthropy and world peace, Ms. Mengxian Zhang presented the World Culture of Peace contribution to Master Lu on behalf of Felix W. Ortiz, the Deputy Speaker of the New York State Assembly, and commended Master Lu’s dedications and service. New York Mayor Representative Mr. Tommy Lin praised Master Lu’s dedicated efforts and presented him with the New York Peace Contribution Award. Mr. He Xin, Chairman of the Mid – America Asian Culture Association, presented Master Lu with the World Culture of Peace Award.

Over the past 20 years, Master Lu has been dedicating to promoting the culture of peace and interfaith harmony through the peaceful philosophy of Buddhism— non-violence and compassion. His efforts have been widely recognized by the international community and have helped people around the world develop an understanding and appreciation of the traditional Chinese culture. By using plain words, Master Lu’s Dharma Talks accord perfectly with the spirit of the Dharma and meet the needs of the listeners. He explained the profound Buddhist teachings as easy to understand as possible for the public, and made Buddhism truly applicable in people’s daily lives. Across the world today, Master Lu’s Buddhist practice has helped 10 million people find spiritual refuge and liberation, thus changing their lives for the better.

Master Lu’s 10-day Dharma Propagation Tour 2018 in the US started on October 5th and then went on to New York. His public talk at Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Los Angeles successfully held on October 7th and attracted 10,000 people. In New York, he brought another three public talks to worldwide Buddhist friends and local people since October11th. The major event took place at the Madison Square Garden in Manhattan on October14th, providing a fitting end to the grand tour. The year of 2018 marks the sixth Dharma Propagation Tour by Master Jun Hong Lu in the US, aiming to spread Buddhism and traditional Chinese culture.

The events attracted a lot of Buddhist practitioners and followers, including some of the Westerners, from New York and other areas in the US. Many of the practitioners traveled long distances for the event, hoping to receive guidance and advice from Master Lu. Buddhist learning and practicing materials were very popular among participants at the event and all distributed for free. Over 1,000 volunteers from all over the world offered their support and help wholeheartedly throughout the event. Vegetarian food was also offered free of charge during the events.

Master Lu’s Dharma Talks are the crystallized wisdom of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism. They cover a broad range of topics from history to modern life. His talk taught people how to apply the Buddhist teachings to cope with everyday issue. Sparkling with a good sense of humour and witticism, his speech is full of inspiration and provokes introspection. It was a spiritual cleansing experience for the audience to get rid of negative energy generated from afflictions and concentrate on the positive.

Master Lu’s talk shines a light on the rich and profound nature of traditional Chinese culture and humanistic Buddhism; it helps to overcome vexations in our minds. His tour worldwide indeed serves as a bridge that not only connects overseas Chinese community members across the world, but also showcases the treasure of the Chinese culture in Western societies.  

Master Lu currently serves as Chairman of both the Australia Oriental Media Group and the Australia Oriental Media Buddhist Charity Association. He is also President of the Australian Chinese Buddhist Research Centre, Honorary Visiting Professor at University of Siena in Italy, and lecturer in the areas of Buddhism and Philosophy at University of the West of Scotland in the UK.  

Master Lu is a Justice of Peace (JP) in Australia. He has been awarded the royal title of Dato’ in Malaysia and holds an advanced diploma in Counseling & Psychology (Australia). He has been promoting traditional Chinese culture, Buddhism, world peace and philanthropy for over 20 years by holding over 200 large-scale public talks in over 30 countries and regions.

Ever since 2010, Master Lu has been invited to give talks in New York, Los Angeles, Boston, and San Francisco. He was also invited to speak at Harvard University and attend international peace conferences in places such as the United Nations, US Congress, and the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles. Being awarded the title of Ambassador for World Peace on several occasions, Master Lu was invited by the President of the United Nations General Assembly to attend and speak at the “High Level Forum on the Culture of Peace” at UN headquarters. The forum was joined by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, UN President of General Assembly and other leaders from around the world. In both 2017 and 2018, Master Lu was invited to deliver keynote speeches at the Celebration of Vesak Day at UNESCO headquarters.

Last Saturday, June 16th, 2018, a large scale Free Vegetarian Event was held successfully at Flushing, New York to celebrate the coming Dragon Boat Festival 2018. The event was hosted by Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door Buddhist Association New York Chapter. Around 1000 people attended this event and spent a wonderful time with the amazing vegetarian food and videos from Master Jun Hong Lu‘s Dharma Talk and Totem Inquiry.

Every year, on the 5th day of the 5th month of the traditional Chinese calendar, people celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival with elaborated decorated vessels, delicious glutinous rice dumplings wrapped in reed leaves and offerings. This is also a perfect time for Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door New York Chapter to propagate Buddhism and transmit love and compassion to more people. The event is also a great give back to the Flushing Chinese Community for its consistent support of Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door New York Chapter. 

During the event, all the attendees watched the real case Totem Inquiries from Master Jun Hong Lu’s Dharma Talk. These video clips clearly showed how one’s own deeds bring one’s own results. Every action comes up with a consequence. In the videos, Master Jun Hong Lu told us, to avoid all evil, to cultivate good, and to cleanse our mind, is the right way to perform cultivation. The free distribution center was crowded with tons of people seeking advice on the solutions of their issues by performing Buddhist practice. They were eager to learn more about the Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door and the teachings from Master Jun Hong Lu. All the Buddhism books and DVDs were distributed for free. In the main hall,  dozens of Buddhist children performed recitations of Heart Suture on stage to all the guests. 

Volunteers from Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door New York Chapter exquisitely prepared a wide variety of vegetarian food for this event. There were hundreds of dazzling vegetarian foods on the table. The enthusiasm and good service are highly praised and appreciated. Additionally, vegetarian teaching video was arranged, with the hope that there will be more people enjoying vegetarian food and being able to learn to make healthy and delicious vegetarian food in the future.

At the end, in the late afternoon, many people spotted the gigantic iridescent, multi-hued clouds in the sky. They were so beautiful that left many people awed and thrilled. It’s a clear indication that Guan Yin Bodhisvatta was blessing everyone in the event. Wish more sentient beings receive the grace from Guan Yin bodhisattva, and there will be more people on the path of awakening and enlightenment.

Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door holds “Free Vegetarian Food Tasting” at Guan Yin Hall, New York, for giving back to communities.

On 13th August 2017, Sunday Afternoon, the reporter arrived at the location of Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door, the Guan Yin Hall in Brooklyn, New York. Later, the reporter has also visited the weekly hosting event of “Vegan Food Tasting”. Nearly 200 dharma friends coming from New York has attended the event.

More than dozens of volunteers have helped to share their views from Buddhism learning and how to put into practice, these including cultivating compassionate mind, treating people in kind way, and supporting to build a harmonious society as well.

The event was presented with Buddhism teaching books and pleasant gifts, and all of them are available for free. On the day, more than ten different types of delicious vegetarian foods were served to public which were well prepared by the dharma friends. In the event, the video sharing about Master Jun Hong Lu and his international contributions was played.

Esther Yang, one of the event’s organiser, said, “We are proud to take the initiative to make tasty and healthy vegetarian food accessible to our community members. As our patron, Master Jun Hong Lu, often remind us that we should always think of those in need. Our compassion should not only extend to our family members and neighbours, but also to other sentient beings such as animals and other living beings.” “Adopting a vegetarian diet is an effective way to cultivate our compassion,” added Ms Yang. Attendees included local overseas Chinese, successful young professionals, as well as the members of social elites from different sectors. The Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door speaks about the profound Buddhism in plain terms, it has over ten million followers around the world. Over the past few decades, Master Lu has been making continuous efforts to promote world peace and harmony, helping people to maintain wellbeing of the body and soul by using Chinese Buddhism teaching.

Since the establishment of Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door in New York, it has been committed to promote the essence of Chinese Buddhist culture and organised several philanthropic and Buddhist learning events during Chinese traditional festivals in Chinese Spring festival, Dragon festival, and the birth of lord Buddha.There were about 100 volunteers that had practiced the spirit of Lord Buddha and GuanYin Bodhisattva in the way of selfless dedication to serve the community, caring for the vulnerable groups, supporting the peace and harmony of the society.

On 16th July, Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door held the grand charity event “Free Vegetarian Food Tasting” at Flushing, New York for celebrating the birth of lord Guan Yin Bodhisattva. The aim of the event is to support philosophy of being vegetarian to keep healthy lifestyle, promote vegan diet, and Chinese culture of Buddhism. Apart from that, it is also the opportunity to give something back to the society, the event received warm and supporting responses from the community. On the day, about 2000 Chinese people from New Jersey, Philadelphia, even the distant location in Boston coming to attend the event.

Guan Yin Citta welcomed dharma friends with well-prepared delicious vegan food and the Buddhist learning materials. In very short, all the learning materials were taken out by the enthusiastic guests. This again shows that the compassionate philosophy of being vegetarian to keep healthy has already been recognised and supported among many people.Master Junhong Lu (Justice of Peace) is the president, director, founder of Australia Oriental Media Buddhist Charity Association.
