Being separated by the Gulf of Thailand, Cambodia and Singapore seem to be two distant countries far apart from each other. However, miles can’t shake something as sturdy as the strong affinities between Guan Yin Bodhisattva and Buddhist friends. Their aspiration of spreading Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door and Buddhist Master Jun Hong Lu’s teachings to wide public spans the miles and helps bring about the first free Vegetarian Feast event in Cambodia held on September 22, 2018.

As a predominantly Buddhist nation, Cambodia has a population of over 97 percent who believe in Buddhism. Promoting Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door in such a place nurtured by Buddhist culture is full of importance and challenge. The cross-country Dharma propagation activity was first initiated by Guan Yin Citta Singapore and fulfilled with the close collaboration from Guan Yin Citta Cambodia. Nearly 90 Buddhist practitioners from Singapore traveled all the way north to the capital city of Phnom Penh and joined in the Dharma propagation activities. Not only did they spread flyers and Buddhist learning materials on streets, but also they released fish and tortoises. As the climax of these activities, the Free Vegetarian Feast event caused a sensation in local Chinese communities and delivered hundreds of sentient beings.

Even though this is the first time the two Buddhist practice groups collaborated together, their mutual support and hard work rewarded them with the success of the vegetarian event in local communities. Volunteers from Guan Yin Citta were delighted to welcome such a great number of Buddhist friends coming to join in the event. More than 500 Buddhist friends attended the event and the ball room was filled with crowds. Started with a chorus singing of Buddhist songs brought by volunteers from Guan Yin Citta, the beautiful melody created an atmosphere of joy and calmness. In the video sharing session, the guests and Buddhist friends watched clips from Master Jun Hong Lu’s Dharma Talks and Totem Readings. In spite of the barrier of language, many Buddhist friends showed great interests in Master Jun Hong Lu’s Buddhist teachings and fascinated by the wisdom of Buddhism. In addition to the Dharma Talk, the heartfelt Totem Reading Cases deeply resonated with many of the guests. They were shocked to see so many people suffering in despair and lost in delusions. From other people’s stories, many guests realized that we are the heirs to our own deeds and our lives are the unfolding of karmic law.

The free vegetarian event was a great success. In the near future, there will be more free vegetarian events organized by Guan Yin Citta in Cambodia to promote Master Jun Hong Lu’s Buddhist teachings. Wish the Guan Yin Citta Dharma blossoms in the land, bringing happiness and inner peace to people!

Every year, worldwide Buddhist friends celebrate Guan Yin Bodhisattva’s Enlightenment Day on the 19th day of the sixth Lunar Month. This year, when the magnificent day falls on July 31, 2018, Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door Buddhist Association of Italy, Milan branch put on a successful vegetarian event and organized the “Offering the First Incense” to commemorate Guan Yin Bodhisattva’s dignified virtues and contributions to the world. They also used this opportunity to celebrate Buddhist Master Jun Hong Lu’s birthday in August, wishing him remain longer in this world and widely spread Buddha’s teachings.

The “Offering the First Incense” was held at the start of July 31th from 0:00am to 2:00am. More than 200 Buddhist friends from all over Italy and other regions attended this sacred ceremony. They extended their greetings and sincere gratitude to the Guan Yin Bodhisattva for her great compassion and great mercy to alleviate all sentient beings from suffering. Especially in the Dharma Ending Age, without the help and blessings from Guan Yin Bodhisattva, many people would have been manipulated by fate, sank in adversity and slacked in prosperity. The wisdom of Buddhism saved millions of people lost in darkness and lights up their ways to liberation and bliss. After offering the incense, many Buddhist friends stayed at the Guan Yin Hall and performed recitations till the noon. Volunteers from Guan Yin Citta Milan Chapter meticulously prepared various kinds of delicious vegetarian food to treat the Buddhist friends staying at Guan Yin Hall, and express thanks for their commitment to the practice and dedication to the Dharma protection.

In the evening, Guan Yin Citta Milan hosted a free vegetarian feast at the restaurant of Ristorante Junyue from 19:00pm to 21:00pm. Over 500 Buddhists friends, both new and old, attended this gathering. Started with the video clip from Master Jun Hong Lu’s Dharma Talk, all the attendees learned together the importance of gratitude in Buddhist practice. Master Jun Hong Lu said, “As a Buddhist practitioner, it’s essential for us to practice gratitude. Everyone should be grateful for everything that happens in life. If we can reside in gratitude, our souls will be pure, and then our state of consciousness will be getting closer to the ones of Buddha and Bodhisattva. In this case, even we are now in the human realm, we can be freed from the cycle of reincarnation and ascend into higher realms. Thus, we need to be more grateful to life, know more about this world, and then gain the true understanding about the purpose of being a human in this world. When we celebrate Guan Yin Bodhisattva’s Enlightenment Day, we can also practice gratitude, expressing the extraordinary veneration for Guan Yin Bodhisattva from the depths of our hearts.”

During the event, two Buddhist friends told their heartfelt stories about how their lives changed by practicing Buddhism. Brother Du shared that he successfully obtained the long-term residence permit in Italy through the practice of the “Three Golden Gems” in Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door. In the meantime, he got rid of lawsuit which had bothered him for a long time. And his symptoms of Parkinson were gone, which indicated he is fully recovered from Parkinson’s disease. Brother Hu shared how Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door benefits her whole family during her three years of practice. Not only her father recovered from cancer, but also she herself gained significant health improvement. Some of her chronic diseases disappeared without any treatment. She said, “Practicing Buddhism is the ultimate way to alleviate from suffering. Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door is really effective and beneficial in changing people’s lives.”

While attendees enjoyed their food and drinks, amazing performances were presented by local Buddhist friends and youngsters. Dozens of kids performed the recitation of Great Compassion Mantra in front all the audience. Their beautiful sound was like the melody from the sky, sweet and lively, touched everyone’s heart. At the end, all the Buddhist friends extended their best wishes to Master Jun Hong Lu, wishing him happy birthday and good health.

To celebrate the Enlightenment Day of Guan Yin Bodhisattva, the Australian Chinese Buddhist Research Centre (ACBRC) Melbourne Branch held a large scale Free Vegetarian Food Tasting Event at the Preston City Hall, Melbourne on July 29, 2018. Holding an event on such a magnificent day, not only brings awareness of the contributions by the Guan Yin Bodhisattva, but also provides a great opportunity to increase people’s understanding about Buddhism and its concept of making the right food choices for both physical and spiritual enhancement.

Early in the morning before the event started, many people outside the City Hall witnessed a beautiful double rainbow in the sky. It’s considered as the manifestation of the blessings from Guan Yin Bodhisattva and a good omen for the day. The rainbow brought great joy to the volunteers and filled their hearts with bliss. To ensure the smooth running of the event, every volunteer devoted themselves to the preparation and worked hard with energy. At 10:30am, after wrapping up the preparation, many guests and Buddhist friends began arriving. In a short of time, the city hall was filled with people and turned into a lively place full of laughter and happiness. It is estimated that over 100 volunteers involved in the work and over 500 people attended. The total number of attendance surpassed 600.

Before the event officially started, the guests and Buddhist friends first watched Master Jun Hong Lu’s Totem Reading videos. They were fascinated by Master Jun Hong Lu’s great spiritual power and the ability to reveal one’s past, present and future. In the meantime, they were shocked by the miserable experiences and suffering of the people in the videos. The Totem Reading clearly demonstrated the Law of Cause and Effect, and showed everything happens for a reason and nothing happens by chance. The videos deeply knocked on the doors of attendee’s hearts and made them realize the importance of Buddhist practice.

At 11:20am, the event officially started with the delivery of a brief welcome speech by the host. Then the Head of the ACBRC Melbourne Branch, Sam Ding, thoroughly introduced the organization and all kinds of activities. As a non-profit Buddhist charity organization, the Branch has been dedicating to giving back to the local communities and committing to the promotion of traditional Chinese culture, Buddhism and Vegetarianism with the goal of improving people’s overall well-being.

Shortly after the introduction, all the attendees watched Master Jun Hong Lu’s Dharma Talk clips and learned the nutritional benefits and spiritual impact of the vegetarian diet on people’s lives. Many attendees were related to Master Jun Hong Lu’s words and deeply impressed by his approachable teachings. The subjects of most Dharma talk were taken from everyday life and were treated with a touch a humour. After video watching, some Buddhist practitioners enthusiastically shared their vegetarian experiences and the changes in their lives by performing recitations of Buddhist scriptures, making vows and practicing life liberation. These testimonials of miracles demonstrated the greatness of Buddhism and actual benefits that Buddhist practitioners received from cultivation. Then some youth volunteers performed a play “The Story of Amoti Guan Yin” on stage and received great applause from audience.

Since the theme of the event was “Free Vegetarian Food Tasting”, enjoying delicious food was definitely one of the biggest highlights of the day. Luckily for the guests, there was everything they needed from curries and soup to comforting fried noodles and hearty salads. Over 100 kinds of dazzling dishes surprised the guests and satisfied everyone’s taste buds. Most incredibly, all the delicious food was prepared and made by the volunteers from ACBRC Melbourne Branch, who devoted a great deal of time and energy to the food preparation and rewarded high praise from guests. After tasting the food, many attendees were amazed at the good taste and the balanced nutrition of the meals.

Even one of the staff working at the Preston City Hall marvelled at the volunteers and the work they accomplished. He said, “I’ve never seen a team with such high-performance and good collaboration. Everyone committed to every part of the event with passion and devotion. Their great teamwork and modest attitude guaranteed the smooth running and the success of this event.” The staff then joined the video watching session, and was blown away by Master Jun Hong Lu’s teachings. He took the initiative to talk to the volunteers and requested several books to read for further study.

Around 2:30pm, the celebration came to an end, whereas many people still immersed in the joy and were feeling invigorated and energetic. It is an event not only delighted the senses, but also fed the spirit and enlarged people’s understanding about Buddhism. Hopefully, more beings will start the practice of Buddhism and applying the wisdom of Dharma into their life to change their destinies.
