As the third largest city in Malaysia, Ipoh is known for its huge number of interesting attractions and rich history. On June 15, 2019, a large free vegetarian tasting event took place at the Ipoh PHL Convention Center. The vegetarian event attracted over 1600 attendees and featured various types of vegetarian food. It provides a welcoming environment in which to explore a wide variety of delicious, healthy, and plant-based foods that are good for people and friendly to the environment. The event was held and organized by the Guan Yin Citta Buddhist Association of Malaysian. It is also part of the series free vegetarian tasting events across the country to promote Vegetarianism and the core values of Buddhism.

This event consists of incredible sessions of vegetarian food tasting, video watching, and performances by volunteers from Guan Yin Citta. The dazzling and delicious vegetarian food not only satisfied people’s appetite, but also changed some of their opinions towards vegetarian diet. In the meantime, the attendees watched amazing video clips from Master Jun Hong Lu’s Dharma Talks and Totem Inquiries. These fascinating Totem cases revealed the real existence of Karma and the Law of Cause and Effect, which educated the attendees and made them realize that there is another Buddhist way to live their lives.

Master Jun Hong Lu, the founder of Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door, is a strong advocate of vegetarian diet, not only because it can benefit people’s health and earth, but also it is one of the main methods to cultivate compassion and refrain from killing. Master Jun Hong Lu has ever said, “Compassion will resolve all your troubles. When you are annoying someone, or you’re having something upset, it is mainly because you have not forgiven others. If you let go of the resentment and forgive others, you will open yourselves up to practicing compassion and love. Compassionate people have a level of inner courage to forgive others, which leads to resolving afflictions and trouble. “In order to achieve peace and social harmony in the world, restore the balance of mind, let us start it with the change of our diet, cultivate compassion and perform more giving.

The success of the event relied on over 400 volunteers from different places of Malaysia, including Sarawak Kuching, Sibu;, Kuala Lumpur, Klang, Puchong, Johor Bahru, Muar, Kluang, Yongping, Segamat, Selangor Seremban and Malacca. All the volunteers involved in the event of their own free will and for no financial remuneration. They worked wholeheartedly with true passion and enthusiasm. Many local people expressed their appreciation for the invaluable opportunity to learn Buddhism and experience vegetarian food culture. They look forward to attending the event again in the coming months.
