On February 10th, 2019, a large scale free vegetarian tasting event was held at the Aichi Women’s Center in Nagoya, Japan. The event celebrates the arrival of spring with foods and various activities, aiming to focus on community building and Buddhist promotion. Over hundreds of guests from different areas of Japan attended this event and spent a happy day together.

As the third Guan Yin Citta Buddhist Practice Center in Japan, Nagoya Buddhist Center opened in October 2018 and is committed to spreading Master Jun Hong Lu’s Buddhist teachings. It is the first time that large scale free vegetarian activity is organized by the organization.

Focusing on the theme of vegetarian lifestyle, volunteers from Guan Yin Citta talked the audience through the benefits of Buddhist practice in details. By watching photos and videos, audience learned the Buddhist concepts of compassion and refraining from killing. Practicing vegetarian is one of the best ways to abstain from killing and accumulate merits and virtues. Every sentient being, even a small insect, has Buddha nature. Killing them is to hurt ourselves, not to mention the bad karma created in the meanwhile. During the sharing session, several Buddhist practitioners endorsed their testimonials, such as how they went through life difficulties by applying ‘Three Golden Practices’ from Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door. Their real experiences touched many audience and they were amazed by the power of Buddhist practice.

In addition to the sharing, volunteers from Guan Yin Citta presented series of astonishing performances, including singing, dancing, and reading. They livened up the atmosphere and made the event more inviting and entertaining. The guests also enjoyed delicious meals prepared by volunteers. These exquisite vegetarian dishes were not only visually attractive, but also packed with nutrition. They are the best demonstrations of a smart healthy diet.

The success of the event is reflected on the great number of people interested in learning Master Jun Hong Lu’s teachings. Many of them consulted the volunteers and picked some Buddhist books. Some friends even visited the Nagoya Buddhist Center afterwards and made incense offerings to Guan Yin Bodhisattva. Great gratitude to Guan Yin Bodhisattva and Master Jun Hong Lu, the brothers of Guan Yin Citta Nagoya will continue work hard together to spread Buddhist teachings to more people. Such is the best way to repay Buddha’s kindness.
