LA-GuanYi Citta-Lotus-Festival-2018-7

Hot summer time in Los Angeles has never been boring with the abundance of festivals and events. One of the special activities is the annual Lotus Festival taking place in July, timed for the blooming of the lotus flowers. On July 14, 2018, the 38th Annual Lotus Festival kicked off with an opening ceremony at Echo Park Lake where is surrounded by local Asian communities and bustling city life. The 2-day festival is organized by the city of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, aiming to promote awareness of the contributions by Asian Americans to L.A. The theme of this year is “Honoring the Chinese community”. As one of the most influential nonprofit local organizations, Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door Buddhist Association of Los Angeles attended this festival and brought spotlight to Buddhism.

The lotus flower has always been the symbol of divine and the representative of the purity of mind in Buddhism. On the day of opening, the lotus beds in the park were in full bloom, which it is said are the largest lotus beds in the United States and have existed as early as 1891, long before the park was built in 1920s. Like the lotus flowers blooming most beautifully from the deepest and thickest mud, Buddhist practitioners have to go through difficult times and then rise again with compassion and wisdom. In one of Buddhist Master Jun Hong Lu’s books, Words of Wisdom Volume 1, he mentioned, “We need to rid ourselves of the defilement within us to regain our inherent Buddha-nature. We need to let go of everything to transcend this world and to help all sentient beings become enlightened and be free from suffering. Only when we attain a high level of spirituality can we be liberated from the cycle of rebirth.” This is exactly the lotus flower spirit of “Live in the silt but not imbrued”, a noble quality which every Buddhist practitioner should cultivate and possess as a goal. In this sense, starting a Dharma propagation activity in such a place full of blooming lotus flowers really accords with the flower’s symbolic meaning in Buddhism.

In spite of the hot weather, over 20 volunteers from Guan Yin Citta Los Angeles Chapter joined this event and meticulously prepared many kinds of delicious food for the visitors to taste, including salad, fried vegetable, dumplings, sticky rice balls, fruit cakes, red bean porridge, etc. All the volunteers dressed up bright red polo T-shirt and demonstrated their vitality. Some of them walked around to hand out flyers with big smiles on their faces. A simple greeting or by asking “Enjoying the festival?” made many visitors feel warm and walk into the booth with the engagement of learning more details about the Guan Yin Citta and Master Jun Hong Lu. The volunteers offered these visitors an opportunity to rest, reinvigorate themselves with the free vegetarian food and water. Many visitors walked away with the free books and expressed their interests in the coming Dharma Talk by Master Jun Hong Lu in Los Angeles on October 4, 2018. It is like the spring rain moistens everything silently, spreading Buddhism lies in every subtle good attention and ways to put them into actions.

Swift fly the years. It’s been over two years since Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door Buddhist Association of Paris started the first Free Vegetarian Tasting Series in 2016. Being held in a regular basis, the event has become one of most favorable thematic activities served for the local communities and neighborhood. On July 8, 2018, the 23rd installment of the event successfully took place at Guan Yin Citta Paris Chapter, attracting over 200 Buddhist friends both old and new. It offered one of the best platforms to bring the Buddhist teachings to life and spread the benefits of vegetarian eating to people.

The Introduction of Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door” is the theme of this event that mainly served to the new beginners and first-time visitors to Guan Yin Citta Paris Chapter. Volunteers first thoroughly introduced the origins of the six Buddha and Bodhisattvas worshipped at Guan Yin Hall, including Guan Yin Bodhisattva, Nanjing Bodhisattva, Tai Sui Bodhisattva, Guan Di Bodhisattva, Zhou Tsang Bodhisattva and Guan Ping Bodhisattva. The introduction effectively increased attendees’ cognition about the Dharma Door and ultimate goal of Buddhist practice. Subsequently, detailed descriptions of how to make incense offerings, how to prostrate and pray to the Bodhisattvas, and how to set up altar at home were made. It provided useful information and practical ways for new beginners to avoid mistakes in daily practice.

During the event, two practitioners presented heartfelt stories in their experience of Buddhist practice. One of the practitioners said he was once a terminal cancer patient, who defeated the disease and made a miraculous recovery by practicing the “Three Golden Gems” according to the teachings of Master Jun Hong Lu. Right now, he is physically strong and mentally sound. With a heart full of gratitude, he is now one of the volunteers at the Guan Yin Citta Paris Chapter, guarding the teachings of Buddha. Another Buddhist friend shared how she released from the suffering of severe migraine headache by performing life liberation, making vows, and reciting Buddhist scriptures. She said, “Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door and its “Three Golden Gems” in Buddhist practice are real and effective. After I started the practice according to the Master Jun Hong Lu’s teachings for a very short of time, the headache disappeared without any treatment. I was so grateful to Guan Yin Budhisattva and Master Jun Hong Lu.”

Many of the Buddhist friends coming to the event this time had really deep karmic affinities with Buddha. They enjoyed watching the videos of Totem Inquiry and listening to Master Jun Hong Lu’s Dharma Talk. In spite of the hot weather in Paris, some attendees made their trips to the chapter far from other communities and places. They initiatively asked volunteers how to start the practice and requested books to read. Many new Buddhist friends even expressed their ardent expectation to experience the great compassion from Master Jun Hong Lu and listen to his live Public Talk in the next year’s Dharma Talk in Paris.

Free Vegetarian Food Tasting Event at Guan Yin Citta Philadelphia Chapter

Buddhist Master Jun Hong Lu has ever said, “Blessings come from a generous heart. Those who give are the most blessed.”(Excerpt from Words of Wisdom volume 1) On July 15, 2018, volunteers from Guan Yin Citta Philadelphia Chapter organized an amazing free vegetarian tasting event and applied the master’s teachings to the actions of promoting vegetarianism and Buddhism. The event was held at the Guan Yin Citta Chapter in downtown Philly, which attracted over 250 Buddhist friends, neighbors, and families of different races.

Before joining this event, some attendees had held on to a kind of thinking, eating vegetarian is boring. But after tasting the delicious food prepared by the volunteers, they changed their mind and were convinced that eating without meat can also be as exciting. Over 50 vegetarian recipes were loaded with flavorful, colorful ingredients packed with nutrition. Some meat lovers even expressed their interests to mix vegetarian recipes in their daily diet. In this sense, the event is quite successful, because consuming more vegetarian meals means consuming less meals with meat. This is a good approach to cultivate compassion, reduce killing, and enhance the body performances.

In addition to the wonderfully hearty food, video clips from Master Jun Hong Lu’s Totem Inquiry also astonished many attendees. They were amazed at Master Jun Hong Lu’s great spiritual power to reveal one’s past, present and future. In the meanwhile, they were touched by the miserable stories and experiences from those people in suffering. Master Jun Hong Lu said, “When life gets difficult, keep in mind that we are experiencing the amount of suffering we were destined to go through, therefore transforming our karma for a better future”. These Dharma words from Master Jun Hong deeply revealed the Law of Cause and Effect, and showed the importance of paying off karmic debts through Buddhist practice. Most of the attendees expressed much interest in the dramatic positive effect of reading Buddhist scriptures on solving daily issues related to health, relationship, and career etc. And they initiatively asked volunteers how to start the practice and requested books to read.

After viewing videos, 13 Buddhist youngsters aged from 3 to 14 performed the reading of Buddhist Scriptures in front of all the attendees, including the reading of Dharani to Purify Karma from Speech (Jing Kou Ye Zhen Yan), Heart Sutra, Septa Atitabuddha Karasaniya Dharani (Xiao Zai Ji Xiang Shen Zhou), and Cundi Dharani (Zhun Ti Shen Zhou).

Since Master Jun Hong Lu’s Dharma Talk in New York is coming soon, the host thoroughly introduced the necessity of attending this Dharma Talk, and specific arrangements from Guan Yin Citta Philadelphia Chapter for the big event, including when and how to collect free admission tickets and reserve bus seats for the round trip between New York and Philadelphia. After the host announced the information, many attendees were rushed to the registration center to collect the tickets for the Buddhist Master Jun Hong Lu’s Dharma Public Talk in October at Madison Square Garden. And over 90 bus seats were reserved for the free round trip. At the same time, some volunteers took advantage of the timing, giving one-to-one tutorial to the first-time visitors on how to start the daily homework of reading Buddhist Scriptures as a beginner.

At the end, every attendee received a gift of a beautiful cosmetic bag and a picture book with tons of vegetarian recipes. They were looking forward to the next free vegetarian food tasting event on August 19, 2018.

2018 Grand Free Vegetarian Tasting Event Johor Bahru

As the state capital of Johor, Johor Bahru is located in southern Peninsular Malaysia, adjacent to the neighboring Singapore. It is one of the largest cities in Malaysia and the nation’s significant regional transport and manufacturing hub. On July 7th, 2018, a grand free vegetarian tasting event was held in the suburb of the city and brought inspiration and joy to the local people.

As the organizer of this grand event, the Guan Yin Citta Buddhist Association of Malaysian has been dedicating to the Buddhism propagation and promoting Vegetarianism throughout the country. Nearly 20 large scale free vegetarian tasting events have been held in different places of Malaysia. The Johor Bahru Vegetarian Tasting Event is just one of the series of events to increase people’s understanding about Buddhism and the teachings from Master Jun Hong Lu. It’s also a great give back to the local communities for their consistent support to Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door and the Guan Yin Citta Chapter in Johor Bahru.

It’s estimated that over 1,200 families, friends, and neighbors attended the event. Since this is the second time the free tasting event was held in Johor Bahru, most people had held higher expectations before it started. The cheerful result is that most people found they spent a wonderful day with the meaningful learning of Dharma and gorgeous food, which exceeded their anticipation. The organizer, Guan Yin Citta Malaysia, offered 40 kinds of diversified cuisines to satisfy guests’ needs. All the food was carefully prepared and meticulously presented, including  Malay satay, mushrooms in three cups, Thai style vegetarian fish, Hakka stuffed tofu, Burmese salad, Malacca G rice ball, Chinese style vegetarian wings, sesame oyster mushroom and French bread, etc.

Notably, the hard work of the 300 volunteers was admirable and praiseworthy. The event would not be accomplished without these self-devoted volunteers, who poured their hearts and souls into the work of preparing for the food, showing the guests the way to entrance, cleaning the bathrooms, distributing books, answering questions, etc. Most of the volunteers were from different places far from Johor Bahru, including East Malaysia, Sarawak, Sabah, Kuala Lumpur, Perak, Negeri Sembilan, Malacca, Singapore and Indonesia. Their actions and behaviors in the event best demonstrated the spirit and upward outlook of a Buddhist practitioner, which impressed the guests and guarded the Buddhism teaching.

In addition, the collections of Master Jun Hong Lu’s Dharma Talks and Totem Inquiry videos clips were played, which inspired many attendees. During the video watching, many of them cannot help feeling about the sufferings in the chilling stories. So many men, women and children are on the verge of crisis, ranging from health issues, mental problems, marriage struggling, and family fights, etc. Master Jun Hong Lu said, “The suffering is a central concept in the Buddha’s teachings. 2,500 years ago, the Buddha has told us that there are four kinds of universal sufferings of birth, aging, sickness, and death. No one could be able to escape from any of them. Additionally, there is the suffering of having to meet or contact with those whom one hates or which one dislikes. Another mental suffering is the feeling you have to deal with when someone you love has to part from you, such as when your dear mother or father is dying in the hospital, when your kids grow up and leave home, etc. Life would be thriving if it could go through the suffering. Another suffering is being unable to obtain what one desires. Because of our desire and craving, we have to bear the suffering subsequently followed by the desire. It can also be stopped without the trigger of desire. The last one is the suffering arising from the five aggregates that constitute one’s body and mind. ”

At the end, the lucky drawing session led the event to the climax. Every attendee received a free delicate picture book which introduces vegetarian cooking with tons of practical recipes. The joy of Dharma permeated everywhere and everyone was happy. They were looking forward to the next free vegetarian tasting event in the near future.

A Great Give Back to The Society — SUMMERICE 2017: Care package distribution to the needy families, Guan Yin Citta Singapore

A Great Give Back to The Society — SUMMERICE 2017: Care package distribution to the needy families, Guan Yin Citta Singapore

SummeRICE 2017

With the dawn’s first thin thread of light made its way through the window, a new day had begun. Volunteers from Guan Yin Citta Singapore started the day with the busy preparation for the Care Package delivery. After checking the inventory and loading them into cars, all the volunteers were off to the destination, the Redhill in Singapore. This seemingly ordinary day soon turned to an extraordinary memory for the residents living in there.

On June 3, 2017, the Bukit Merah Community Center, collaborating with Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door Buddhism Practice Center in Singapore, organized a SummeRICE 2017 activity. It aims to provide support and comfort to low income families with the free distribution of Care Packages. Over 100 volunteers from Guan Yin Citta joined this operation. They worked together to do the packing and handed out packages with sincere greetings to the needy families. Every Care Package contained several kinds of dried food, which were convenient for long term use.

All the volunteers felt glad and honored to have such a good opportunity to serve the marginalized group in society. One volunteer remarked, “It is my honor to be able to assist the Community Center to do the good things for the residents in this district. As a Buddhist practitioner, I have benefited a lot from Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door. Buddhist Master Jun Hong Lu teaches us that unconditionally loving all the sentient beings is to love ourselves. Since the Guan Yin Hall is so close to the Redhill, we will try our best to service the community in the future and help more people.”

Another volunteer also commented that this was not her first time participating in the similar activities organized by Guan Yin Citta Practice Centre (Singapore). “All these years, the Guan Yin Citta Singapore has been dedicating to holding diversified activities and events with the integration of social responsibility. Normally, when the Mother’s Day is on its way, we’ll organize Flower arrangement class for both mothers and children, which can remind participants of the filial piety, a virtue of respect for one’s parent. During the Mid-Autumn Festival, we’ll organize activities to introduce traditional Chinese culture. Not to mention other big days, such as Dragon Boat Festival, Lantern Festival, Chinese New Year, etc.”

By applying Master Jun Hong Lu‘s teaching ‘benefiting others benefits oneself’ to practice, the volunteers’ self-devotion actions are remarkable and admirable. This operation demonstrates the Buddhist concept of selflessness, which provides an avenue to social awareness and engagement to the care of low income families. It also shows the act of giving is such a powerful benevolence to bring inner peace and joy. Spreading more love, kindness, and compassion into this world will reward an abundant life with happiness.

2018 Free Vegetarian Tasting Event in North London

2018 Free Vegetarian Tasting Event in North London

On July 15, 2018, the UK Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door Buddhist Charity Foundation successfully held a Free Vegetarian Tasting Event at Islington Chinese Centre in North London. It is estimated that over 160 Buddhist friends attended this event. July 15, 2018 is also the Chinese Lunar Calendar June 3, which was the Holy Birthday of Wei Tuo Bodhisattva, the Great Dharma Guardian to protect the teachings of Buddhism. Spreading more love, kindness and compassion into the world on this special day made the event incredibly meaningful.

During the event, all the attendees watched the video clips from Buddhist Master Jun Hong Lu’s Dharma Talk. From Buddhist perspective on the development of well-being, Master Jun Hong Lu comprehensively explained the importance and the benefits of the Vegetarian diet. In one of the talks, he said, “Being a vegetarian is the first step into the stream of compassion. Buddhas and Bodhisattvas have told us that all sentient beings are future Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. They have been our mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, wives, and relatives in many lives. Imagine they were born into the animal realm and you killed them for the flesh to live on, what would be more miserable than that? In the Buddhist scriptures, Buddhas and Bodhisattvas mentioned ‘do not kill’, which has become the first precept of Buddhism. Refraining from killing is to stimulate compassion, the most precious Buddha nature that everyone possesses. When we want to be committed to being compassionate towards all sentient beings, and when we are able to cultivate compassion by ourselves, we’re moving towards to the goal of eliminating the seeds of killing in our consciousness. That’s why we need to learn from Buddhas and Bodhisattvas for their great compassion, to never live on the flesh of other sentient beings. The endless killing is one of the major causes creating karmic debts and leads to samsara, the cycle of reincarnation. ” And then from the perspective of health, Master Jun Hong Lu said, “the correct vegetarian diet will not only bring us a healthy and anti-cancer alkaline body, but also make the brain more flexible, radiant and energetic.”

Master Jun Hong Lu is the Chairman of the Australia Oriental Media Buddhist Charity Association (AOMB). He has been dedicated to promoting Buddhism, vegetarianism, and cohesive multicultural communities for the past 20 years. Meanwhile, Master Lu is also the founder of the Buddhist practice, Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door, with 10 million followers around the world.

The UK Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door Buddhist Charity Foundation is an affiliated organization of Australia Oriental Media Buddhist Charity Association (AOMB). It has been adheres to the core values of Mahayana Buddhism, such as compassion, wisdom, as well as leading all sentient beings to the liberation from suffering. The UK Guan Yin Citta also deeply involved in the community development, advocating for Vegetarianism, low-carbon life, and environmental protection.

After the video watching, two Buddhist friends shared their heartfelt stories about how their lives changed by performing the “Three Golden Practice” from Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door, including making vows, reciting Buddhist scriptures, and making life liberations. One of the Western Buddhist friends, named Steve Walker, said, “Practicing Buddhism has helped me cope better with life’s obstacles and have a more positive outlook. Especially earlier this year when my mother passed away, I was strong enough to help my family get through a very difficult and stressful time. Following the teachings of Master Lu and his direct modern approach has made me a better, more positive person. I am deeply grateful to the selfless and honorable Master Jun Hong Lu for his dedication in preaching the Dharma and his blessings. ” Another Chinese Buddhist friend shared how he recovered from lymphatic cancer by making vows, performing recitations and life liberations. All these stories with no exceptions deeply touched the heart of every Buddha friend present. They are the testimonies of the great compassion of Guan Yin Bodhisattva, the miracle of self-awakening, and the power of Dharma.

Another highlight of this event is the delicious vegetarian food. Many volunteers poured lots of hearts and souls into the preparation work and then presented the diversified dishes, including soups, salads, appetizers, and entrees. After tasting the food, many attendees could not stop singing their praises. They were amazed at the good taste and the balanced nutrition of the meals. To be more environmental friendly, all the tableware items were made from eco-friendly materials. Most of them were biodegradable and had smaller carbon footprint on the surrounding environment.

Some of the volunteers were bravely bore the heat and stood under the sun outside the entrances of train stations and subway stations to guide attendees, which left deep impressions on the guests and made them feel warm. Even the head of the Islington Chinese Association, the landlord of the venue, was amazed at the volunteers of their high efficiency, selfless devotion, polite manner, modest attitude, and strong organizational skills. One of the VIP guests who is the chairman of another charity organization was also convinced by the excellent performances of the volunteers. He kindly invited the UK Guan Yin Citta to join their future activities in the propagation of Vegetarianism and Buddhism.

The event was quite successful. Everyone was full of joy and delighted by the fact that lots of Buddhist books and materials were handed out quickly in a short time. They were all distributed for free. Many guests were crowded at the Distribution Center to ask questions about how to start the Buddhist practice. They showed tremendous interests in the Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door and deep respect to Master Jun Hong Lu. Everyone is looking forward to the next gathering on July 31, 2018 to celebrate Guan Yin Bodhisattva’s Enlightenment Day. The event will be held at Guan Yin Hall in UK Guan Yin Citta Practice Center, Units 5-6, 8 Lyon Way, Greenford, London, from 13:00pm to 17:00 pm.

Public Talk by Master Jun Hong Lu in Singapore

On May 17, 2018, the World Peace Ambassador, the spiritual leader of 10 million followers, Buddhist Master Jun Hong Lu, arrived at Singapore and started the 5-day journey of Dharma propagation. A series of public Dharma talks were presented by Master Jun Hong Lu at the Singapore Expo. As an event of great significance, last year’s unparalleled 80,000 people Dharma Talk at Singapore National Stadium is still vivid within the memories of many people. This year, the Dharma Talk at Singapore Expo once again shows the immense appeal of Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door and Buddhism to the public. Over 50,000 Buddhist friends and practitioners attended this gathering and they were from over 30 different countries and regions, including UK, France, Netherlands, USA, Canada, Africa, Mauritius, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macau, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Cambodia, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, etc. All the attendees were bathed in the light of the Buddha and immersed in the joy of Dharma. The 5-day event is a journey towards to self-awakening, an action to inspire compassion, and a window that opens on traditional Chinese culture. It’s also another grand promotion event for Buddhism, followed on the heels of the 30,000 people Dharma Talk in the March of 2018 in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The event was officially kicked off by the grand blessing ceremony held in the evening of May 17, 2018. Without taking a short break after long term travel, Master Jun Hong Lu attended the blessing ceremony and delivered a Dharma Talk for over 10,000 people. Countless Buddhist items, objects as well as porcelain Buddha Statues were blessed that night. These blessed Buddhist objects are then distributed for free to benefit all beings.

In the next day, May 18, 2018,  a grand “World Buddhist Friends Meeting” was held with attendees over 10,000. During the meeting, Master Jun Hong Lu delivered an inspiring speech, in which he mentioned, “When we are in the human realm, it’s essential for us to rely on the power and blessings from Buddha and Bodhisattva. But in the meantime, we should also rely on ourselves. Through the cultivation of mind and modification of bad behaviors, we will be able to dig into our consciousness to get rid of those dangerous forms of attachments, such as houses, cars, children, wife, etc. We are clinging ourselves by the net made out of our own cravings and greed. That is why we are drowning in the dusts of desire and unable to extricate from them. ”

The public Dharma Talk held on May 19, 2018 was a huge success. Over 4,000 volunteers got involved and worked in various departments to service the event, such as Communication Group, Free Distribution Group, Admission Group, Sanitation Group, Medical Group, etc. Everyone’s morale was high and they were giving their best to ensure the success of the event. At 2:30pm in the afternoon, Master Jun Hong Lu walked onto the stage, kindly waving to the crowd. More than 300 Buddhist friends handed over flowers and shook hands with Master Jun Hong Lu. In the following speech, he said, “Greed is the most dangerous emotion for modern people. We always tend to try all kinds of means to get what we want. But when we get it, we are overwhelmed by the fear of losing it. To deal with this wrong perception, it’s important to learn the notion of Impermanence. All exists is impermanent and nothing lasts. This Buddhist insight can help you fight against greed. As a Buddhist practitioner, you should learn to untie the knots in your heart and let go of the past. Cherish what you still have today, and be grateful for all the happiness brought by others around you. Be patient to your friends and endure any hardship, taking a step back, everything is brighter. Let the compassion of Guan Yin Bodhisattva always reside in your heart, and you will resolve all the difficulties and calamities in your life. That is the way in which you can attain the true prajna and happiness. ”

The whole event lasted 4 hours and ended in the immense applause from audience. People joined their hands and bowed their heads at the end in gratitude to both Master Jun Hong Lu and the Dharma. Master Jun Hong Lu slowly walked off the stage waving to the crowd. Many Buddhist friends were burst into tears and calling the name of the master. They were looking forward to another gathering at the beautiful place in the year to come. The Dharma imparted by Master Jun Hong Lu will always be there, deep within the consciousness of every attendee, waiting to arise when the conditions are ripe.

On July 7, 2018, a grand relocation ceremony of Guan Yin Citta New Zealand Chapter was held at Geenlane, Auckland. The new home marked a milestone for Guan Yin Citta New Zealand Chapter in terms of its growth and development since its opening in November, 2016.

Buddhist Master Jun Hong Lu, the founder of Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door and Chairman of both the World’s Parliament of Religions Foundation and the Australia Oriental Media Buddhist Charity Association, was invited to attend the celebration and blessed the Bodhisattva Figures at the brand new Guan Yin Hall. It was a landmark event for Buddhist practitioners from New Zealand and around the world.

After the Blessing Ceremony, Master Jun Hong Lu delivered an inspiring speech to the crowd at Guan Yin Hall. He said, “While living in this world, it’s crucial to liberate the mind. The blessing performed today is to turn the Guan Yin Hall into a holy place and provide it as a home to everyone. It is a practice center equivalent to those existed at the time of the Buddha. It’s also a Pure Land rooted in everyone’s heart. If you are feeling unhappy, miserable, or having difficulties in life, Guan Yin Hall is your retreat. You can stay here reading the Buddhist scriptures or sincerely praying for the blessings from Bodhisattva. Where the Bodhisattva resides is where wisdom exists and bad affinities dissolve. That’s why no matter what happens, we need to seek refuge in the Buddha and Bodhisattva for the blessings and protection. Although many people go through their life by acting smart and cunning, ultimately they become the victims of their own cleverness. Only relying on the blessings and power from Buddha and Bodhisattva can our fate be changed. ”

In the afternoon, a grand “World Buddhist Friends Meeting” was held with attendees around 1000 from New Zealand and other places of the world. During the meeting, Master Jun Hong Lu provided answers for over 30 questions related to Buddhist practice. Some Buddhist friends from New Zealand shared their life changing stories by practicing Recitations, Life Liberation and Making Vows. One of the friends luckily avoided car accident, and the other one recovered from cancer and created a medical miracle. The gathering is such a huge success that a broad and calming shade of Dharma joy permeated the whole place.

There’s nothing more important than helping our children be more focused, calm and relaxed with good hearts and mindfulness. Instilling basic Buddhist values, such as compassion, empathy, and altruism, into children will benefit them in a long run and effectively promote their cognitive and socioemotional development. This is why Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door Buddhist Association of Paris started the Children Dharma Class in late Fall of 2017, dedicated to planting the seeds of Dharma into the awareness of young minds. Using an innovative teaching style and fun activities, the program exposes kids into a joyful, funny and relaxing learning environment and makes Buddha’s teachings more easier to grasp.

On Jun 23, 2018, the ninth Children Dharma Class started at Guan Yin Hall in Paris and dozens of kids attended. The main topic of this class is “The Virtue of Patience”. It aims to help children explore how to deal with conflicts and anger by arising the awareness of forgiveness, tolerance and forbearance. In daily life, it’s quite normal and inevitable that kids fight and fall out with each other because of varies issues. Parents normally intervene to take action. But beyond that is the better way to help kids learn to manage their emotions. In this class, through the study of several interesting Buddhist stories from Master Jun Hong Lu’s books, the kids harvested some practical methods to deal with this issue. At the end of one of the stories, Master Jun Hong Lu said, “When we were in the situations making us feel angry, we need to focus on what our breathing actually feels like, calm down our mind and slow down heart rate. Understanding the other person’s perspective will stimulate the growth of love and our capacity to endure and to accept. When it increases to a certain point, the feeling of anger will dissipate.”

To help the less motivated learners take part in, volunteer teachers invited some of the kids to act out roles in their favorite stories and become a part of a play drama. By using the role-play, kids had a deeper understanding about how to concern for people and their views. Afterwards, the kids and teachers played cooperative fun games together. One of the volunteer said, “Dealing with anger is a big issue for kids. First, letting them be more aware of their emotions is important. Then providing them the opportunities to cultivate the virtue of patience is essential. This will help kids raise the awareness of valuing other perspectives and people, which is one of the best ways to boost compassion and love. As a matter of fact, if we practice the Four Immeasurable Minds of loving kindness, compassion, joy and equanimity according to Buddha’s teaching, our heart will grow. And we will have the capacity to accept everything. “

Finally, under the instructions of volunteer teachers, every kid learned how to write the Chinese character “Patience”. Everyone was excited and grateful for having such a good opportunity to learn so much. They are looking forward to the next gathering in the near future.
