On July 8, 2018, more than 500 Buddhist friends, neighbors, and local organization representatives gathered at Mt Eden War Memorial Hall in Auckland to celebrate the Guan Yin Citta New Zealand Chapter’s relocation. The gala was held just one day after the official relocation ceremony.
Since 2016, the Guan Yin Citta New Zealand Chapter has been at the forefront of the New Zealand’s communities in advocating for the core values of Buddhism by following Buddhist Master Jun Hong Lu’s teachings. The relocation to a larger place signifies the fast growth of the Buddhist practice center.
At the beginning of the gala, the host from Guan Yin Citta said, “This is a very exciting time for Guan Yin Citta New Zealand Chapter. In just one and half years, we’ve grown beyond our expectations and moved to a new place. It’s a big step not only for Guan Yin Citta Chapter, but also for all the friends as well. We express gratitude to Guan Yin Bodhisattva and Master Jun Hong Lu for the blessings and guidance on our way of practice. We’re grateful to all the Buddhist friends, local organizations and communities for their unconditional support of Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door.”
The performances were spectacular and full of energy. Started with the traditional Lion Dance, series of performances amazed the audience with no exceptions, including Tai Chi Kungfu Fan Dance, Chinese Qipao Dance, fashion show, magic show, solo singing, Peking Opera etc. Some of these performances were brought by local organizations and associations, such as New Zealand Tai Chi Martial Arts Club, New Zealand Peking Opera Club, and New Zealand Women’s Federation. After the performance of the sign language “Grateful Heart”, dozens of volunteers from Guan Yin Citta took center stage and performed a chorus of “A Verse for Guan Yin” to express their sincere gratitude to Guan Yin Bodhisattva.
During the gala, some lucky attendees participated in the promotional drawing and received surprising gifts from the giveaway. The winner of the drawing harvested a valuable pearl jewelry set, including a necklace and a pair of earrings. In addition, the event provided free vegetarian meals for everyone in attendance. Volunteers donated their time and prepared the food with a lot of heart and soul put into.
In the late afternoon, the gala was wrapped up with the Sichuan Opera Face performance, receiving immense applause of the audience. Most attendees pinned high hopes on Guan Yin Citta New Zealand Chapter for its future development in this new location.
