On Sunday, August 18, 2019, a grand free vegetarian food tasting event took place at the Hall of Seattle Chong Wa Benevolent Association. It is organized by Guan Yin Citta Seattle to promote Master Jun Hong Lu’s Buddhist teachings and vegetarian lifestyle. More than 350 people attended this gathering and spent a memorable day. They tasted delicious food, enjoyed marvelous performances, and most importantly, experienced the power of Buddhism. This is also the first time that Guan Yin Citta Seattle holds such a big event since its opening in April 2019. The huge success of the event cannot happen without the help of over 100 dedicated volunteers from US and Canada, who worked so hard together, blessing the event with food, goodies, and a lot of unconditional love.

Guan Yin Citta Seattle is Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door’s 16th Buddhist Practice Center established in North America. It is a pure land where Buddhist friends can pray, communicate, and cleanse the mind of defilements. As a registered non-profit organization, Guan Yin Citta Seattle is committed to promoting core values of Buddhism and Master Jun Hong Lu’s Buddhist teachings which center on eliminating karmic debts and accumulating merits and virtues. Through practicing reciting Buddhist scriptures, making vows, performing life liberations, tens of thousands of people around the world have benefitted from Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door and overcome life difficulties. Guan Yin Citta Seattle will, as always, continue to work with the local communities to spread love and compassion to more sentient beings.

Since this is the first time Guan Yin Citta Seattle holds such a big event, a series of promotion activities had started two months ahead. Meanwhile, out-of-state volunteers from New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Phoenix, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Vancouver, Ottawa, New Mexico worked together with local volunteers purchasing cooking ingredients, making flower baskets, preparing the venue, and picking up Buddhist friends at the airport. Everyone devoted their time, talent, and energy to help create a wonderful event to shed light into attendees’ lives.

On the day of the event, the venue was fully packed, with attendees mostly ranging the ages above 50 years old. The event comprised a free vegetarian buffet, performances, and video clips watching from Master Jun Hong Lu’s Totem Inquiries and Dharma Talks. The attendees were totally absorbed in the astonishing video clips. And many of them were blown away by the extraordinary power of Master Jun Hong Lu and unbelievable truths revealed in the Totem Inquiries. Master Jun Hong Lu has ever said, “Performing totem reading is just an approach to reveal the Law of Cause and Effect, to let you know everything happens for a reason. It is not an entertainment to increase your ignorance.” During the performances, the crowd had a great time, singing out the lyrics with the volunteers, and taking part in reciting Great Compassion Mantra with joining both of their hands together. They also actively participated in the Q&A session, answering questions about the common problems during Buddhist practice. Some of them even luckily drew the prize of insulated bottles and other exquisite gifts. Another highlight of the event is the free vegetarian buffet. The foods were unbelievably tasty and packed with nutrients and overflowing love. They were all meticulously prepared by volunteers from Guan Yin Citta and served for free. These delicious foods definitely impressed the attendees and changed their mind towards vegetarian diet.

After the event, many of the attendees said that they felt so lucky to have joined such an amazing event to learn so much informative knowledge. They also expressed their appeal to visit the Buddhist practice center. And they look forward to the next gathering in the near future.

FIRST STOP:   HAWAII

Hawaii is the 50th state of U.S., an isolated volcanic archipelago in the Central Pacific. Its islands are renowned for their rugged landscapes of cliffs, waterfalls, tropical foliage and colorful beaches. According to the 2010 US Census, over 1/3 of Hawaii’s population is Asian, most of them with Chinese ancestry. This made Hawaii a perfect place to begin the Buddhism Propagation in the spring of 2018.

From April 2nd through April 10th of 2018, over 40 Buddhist practitioners from New York, Pennsylvania, California, Arizona, and Vancouver joined at this beautiful location to propagate Buddhism. Their intention of “sow lotus seeds” at Hawaii is an act of transmitting love and peace. During the short stay in Hawaii, volunteers spent their time on the streets, handing out flyers and newspapers with the hope that more fellows could take on the path of practicing Buddhism. In addition, this group of volunteers attempted to spread out the message about Buddhist Master Jun Hong Lu’s coming Dharma Talks in US to more people. The two free admission Dharma Talks will be held at Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Los Angeles on October 7, 2018, and Madison Square Garden in Manhattan New York on October 14, 2018.

SECOND STOP:  CHICAGO

After a short break, a new round of propagation started from April 25th through May 1st of 2018. More Buddhist practitioners from Alabama, Washington, Maryland, Texas, and Michigan joined this volunteer group at Chicago. The city of Chicago has been known by many nicknames, but it is most widely recognized as the “Windy City.” Despite this year’s spring was not feeling much like spring during these times with the chilly gusts, Buddhist practitioners were still enthusiastic and continued with “sow lotus seeds” volunteer works regardless of the chills. On the last two days of this journey, Buddhist practitioners made various flavors of mochi, sweet deserts, and snacks as gratitude in return to the community.

THIRD STOP:  SEATTLE

Seattle, the last stop of this journey, brought all the Buddhist practitioners together from May 4th to May 8th, 2018. Although not every “lotus seed” sown by Buddhist practitioners will “grow” along this journey, every location will eventually bring new Buddhist practitioners based on the efforts volunteers put into. Every volunteer was practicing Buddhist Master Jun Hong Lu’s teachings that “remain steadfast in cultivating without expecting anything in return.”
