On July 31, 2018, the Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door Vancouver Chapter organized a successful vegetarian event to celebrate both Guan Yin Bodhisattva’s Enlightenment Day and Buddhist Master Jun Hong Lu’s birthday together. More than 230 Buddhist friends and 45 volunteers attended this gathering and spent a memorable day at Guan Yin Citta Vancouver Chapter.

It began with a video honoring Guan Yin Bodhisattva’s huge contributions to the world. Her great compassion and great mercy has been inspiring every Buddhist practitioner on the way of enlightenment. After that, videos introducing Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door and its founder Buddhist Master Jun Hong Lu were presented, then followed by Totem Inquiry videos and clips from Master Jun Hong Lu’s past Dharma Talks. The rich content and sparkling highlights of the Dharma Talk resonated with the Buddhist friends. Many of them expressed their aspirations to start the practice and further study Master Jun Hong Lu’s teachings.

In the gathering, some Buddhist practitioners shared their true stories about how practicing Buddhism changed their lives and solved their problems. Brother Shi, a doctor with many years of medical experience, said, “As a doctor, I do believe treating patients is only one of the primary jobs of a doctor, caring for how people feel is also important. Especially in the case that patients’ disease could not be identified or treated, they have to endure suffering and anxiety. To help them deal with the situation, I always recommend them to resort to Buddhism. There was one of my patients, who had severe headache and there was no known cause. I asked him to practice reading Great Compassion Mantra 108 times every day. And then after a period of practice, his headaches disappeared without any treatment.” Another girl shared how she found her lost dog by making big vow of not eating animals killed on her behalf and never eating seafood for the rest of her life. Twelve hours after the vow was made, her dog was luckily found. These miracles witness the greatness of Buddhism and power of faith.

In the afternoon, everyone enjoyed delicious vegetarian meals made by volunteers from Guan Yin Citta Vancouver Chapter. They also prepared a pretty birthday cake, wishing Master Jun Hong Lu good health and remain longer in this world, propagate Buddha’s teachings far and wide.
